IRGC Attacks Fifth US Fleet in Bahrain

JAKARTA - Iran has launched missiles and drones towards US targets in the region, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a post on Telegram on Wednesday morning local time.

The statement came after the US said it would retaliate against Iran for the downing of a US Army helicopter.

The IRGC said early Wednesday it targeted the US Fifth Fleet, based in Bahrain, in response to the US attack on Iran.

"The IRGC Navy launched a drone attack at 02.30 am against the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain," said a statement on the semi-official Tasnim news agency, citing CNN (10/6).

The IRGC said the US carried out attacks on Jask, Sirik, and Qeshm, which is in line with several other Iranian government media reports on the attacks.

The IRGC further said the US attack allegedly damaged a communication tower in Sirik and destroyed two water reservoirs in the Bamani district, according to Tasnim news.

Earlier, explosions were heard in the Iranian cities of Sirik and Minab, as well as on Qeshm Island, reported the semi-official Tasnim news agency.

Governor Minab clarified in a later update, "no attack was reported against the city," according to Iran's semi-official Mehr news agency.

The sound of the explosion heard in the inland city came from a coastal road bordering the Strait of Hormuz and not from Minab itself, Mehr reported.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said no US attack would be left "unanswered", after the US launched a new wave of retaliatory attacks against Iran following the downing of an Apache helicopter in the Strait of Hormuz.

"Despite suffering a defeat on the battlefield, the US chose to test our determination. Our powerful armed forces will not allow any attack or threat without a response," Foreign Minister Araghchi said in a post on X on Tuesday.

"Leave our region if you want to be safe," Foreign Minister Araghchi warned.

The statement came after the US carried out an initial strike targeting Iranian air defense systems and radar around the Strait of Hormuz, according to two sources to CNN.

President Donald Trump said it was important to respond to Iran's actions, following the announcement of the downing of an Apache military helicopter due to Iranian fire that the US military said fell on Monday night.

President Trump then said the US response to the shooting was very strong and devastating.

"I think it's very important to respond. They shot down a helicopter, and we are responding right now," President Trump told ABC's Jonathan Karl, who said he was talking on the phone with the President when US CENTCOM announced the attack.

US CENTCOM in a post on social media X said the US military launched a new wave of attacks against Iran on Tuesday, which was described as a "defensive attack."

A US official told CNN that this new attack was intended as a warning shot to Iran and that the US believed the attack would not hinder negotiations to end the war.

The US CENTCOM post described it as "a proportionate response to Iran's unprovoked aggression."

Two sources said the initial attack targeted air defense systems and radars around the Strait of Hormuz. One source said additional attacks were expected.
