Trump Says Iran Shot Down Apache Helicopter in Strait of Hormuz and Vows Retribution

JAKARTA - US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that Iran had shot down an Apache helicopter in the Strait of Hormuz, which the US military said fell on Monday night.

"I just got word from our Great Military that last night Iran shot down one of our very sophisticated Apache helicopters while on patrol over the Strait of Hormuz," Trump said in a post on his Truth Social platform, Al Arabiya reported (9/6).

Trump said the two pilots involved in the incident were safe and uninjured.

"Nevertheless, the United States must, of course, respond to this attack," he added.

In response, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said foreign forces near Iranian territory were in "constant danger due to their own human errors, common accidents, or potentially being caught in a firefight," and asked them to leave.

"To reduce the risk, the best solution is for them (foreign forces) to leave," Foreign Minister Araghchi tweeted in a post on X.

"We prefer the language of diplomacy, but we also speak in other languages," he said.
