Vanesha Prescilla Debuts as the Main Vocalist of The Midnight Darlings with the Single Am I Loving You Alone?

Jevin Julian is once again shaking up the Indonesian music industry by forming a new project. This time, the 34-year-old music producer teamed up with Vanesha Prescilla (vocals), as well as Aldrienko Pakusadewo (guitar) to form a new trio called The Midnight Darlings.

As a marker of the initial step, this alternative pop unit officially released a debut single titled "Am I Loving You Alone?".

The Midnight Darlings was born from the common interest of the personnel in exploring music and cinematic aesthetics. Through this first single, they try to invite listeners to enter a musical space that is dreamy, emotional, but still feels raw and intimate.

Thematically, this song records the melancholy of falling in love so deeply that it slowly turns into a fantasy in the head. The story of a secret admirer who keeps feeling alone is packaged with a melancholy atmosphere.

"Sometimes it feels like it's just us who are too hopeful to have this band. But at the same time, I believe that if something hasn't happened, maybe it's just not the time. The sooner we believe and imagine it well, sooner or later it will happen. And here we are, The Midnight Darlings," said Jevin Julian in his statement, Tuesday, June 9.

Interestingly, this song written and produced directly by Jevin Julian is the debut stage for Vanesha Prescilla as the main vocalist in a music group format. For the 26-year-old actress, this project is a new musical exploration that she has never touched before.

"I never imagined I would sing a song like this. But it turned out to be really fun because this is something new for me. I learned a lot about music, especially song production which is really complex, but exciting. It feels like it's constantly challenged to get closer to The Midnight Darlings," said Vanesha.

In the production process, Jevin Julian admitted that he got a lot of inspiration from his past memories. He tried to revive the collective memory when he was still in school to get the right arrangement formula.

"The production of this song is really exciting. I was writing and producing the song, which brought me back to the feeling of my school days. I also went back to listening to the school playlist from my hard drive that I haven't opened for a long time. I also really like guitars, I'm learning guitar and sound designing with guitars, so I got a lot of new things," said Jevin.

Musically and visually, the band carries a concept of rough yet dreamy that is rooted in cinematic, vintage, and sentimental aesthetics. Their visual and audio compass is heavily influenced by the magical aura of the movements of bands from the 1990s to the early 2000s. The overall concept presents a visualization that resembles a vague but warm piece of old memory.
