Tok! DPR Approves Police Bill to Become Law
The Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) passed the Draft Law on the National Police of Indonesia (RUU Polri) into law (UU) in a plenary session today.
The second-level talks or decision-making on the bill on the Third Amendment to Law Number 2 of 2002 concerning the National Police of the Republic of Indonesia was carried out after being approved by the DPR RI Commission III meeting on Tuesday, June 9, this morning.
Chairman of Commission III of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia, Habiburokhman explained that the preparation of the Police Law has fulfilled the elements of meaningful participation. At the drafting stage, he said, Commission III of the House of Representatives has held at least 12 RDPU to receive public input related to the police law.
"Then Commission III conducted a visit to get input from the public from universities in 12 provinces. Then we invited 15 experts, 6 community groups, 3 student groups, 16 legal science, yes, providing input on the efforts to reform the National Police," said Habiburokhman in a plenary meeting at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday, June 9.
Habiburokhman said that during the discussion after May 25, 2026, Commission III of the DPR also conducted 12 RDPU to receive input from the public, six experts in legal science, two experts in public health, three groups of students, 16 legal experts, and 124 written inputs.
In this report, Habiburokhman also praised the National Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo as one of the best police chiefs in Indonesian history.
"Mr. National Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo, he rarely comes here. One of the best National Police Chiefs of all time, we applaud," he said.
After the report of the chairman of Commission III of the DPR RI, the chairman of the plenary session then asked for approval from all members of the DPR present regarding the ratification of the Polri Bill into a law.
"It's time for us to ask for the approval of the factions for the draft law on the third amendment to Law Number 2 of 2002 concerning the National Police of the Republic of Indonesia, whether it can be approved to be enacted into law?" asked the Deputy Speaker of the DPR RI, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, followed by the approval hammer.
