Iran Ends Attacks on Israel, but Will Respond if Lebanon is Attacked

JAKARTA - Iran announced that it had ended its attacks on Israel, but warned that it would provide a 'devastating' response if attacks on Lebanon continued.

Iran launched an attack on northern Israel on Sunday night, saying it was in response to an Israeli attack on Lebanon, the first attack since the ceasefire agreed on April 8.

"Following the brutal aggression and crimes of the Zionist regime in southern Lebanon and the Dahiya region, which took place with the criminal support of America, the powerful armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran responded painfully to this regime in support of the oppressed Lebanese people," the Khatam al-Anbiya Center Headquarters said in a statement carried by the semi-official Tasnim news agency, Anadolu (8/6).

Israel and its supporters "should have learned" from Tehran's response, the military added.

"On this basis, the cessation of military operations is announced," he said.

However, the Iranian military warned "if aggression and crimes continue, including in southern Lebanon, much harsher and devastating actions will be taken immediately."

Tensions escalated on Sunday, when Israel bombarded Lebanon's capital, Beirut, despite an ongoing ceasefire, prompting Iran to launch missiles into northern Israel in response, with Israel launching several waves of airstrikes against Iran.

Meanwhile, Israeli newspaper Israeli Hayom reported that Tel Aviv and Washington sent a message to Tehran stating that there would be no further attacks launched by Israel if Iran did not continue the attacks.

In a post on his Truth Social platform on Monday morning, US President Donald Trump called on Israel and Iran to stop fighting "immediately" after Monday's retaliatory airstrikes.
