Trump asks Israel and Iran to immediately stop attacking each other
JAKARTA - US President Donald Trump in an upload on Truth Social on Monday asked "Israel and Iran to immediately stop attacking each other."
Israel earlier said it had attacked a petrochemical plant in southwestern Iran, along with attacks elsewhere on military targets, after President Trump reportedly told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to refrain from further attacks, quoted by Al Arabiya (8/6).
Iran and Israel on Monday attacked each other's territory for the first time since a fragile ceasefire halted a five-week war agreed to on April 8, raising fears the escalation could spark a new full-scale conflict.
Iran fired a barrage of missiles at Israel Sunday night, with Israel responding by targeting military sites in the Land of the Mullahs, with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu apparently defying the call of his ally, President Donald Trump, to hold back.
Tehran's attack followed an Israeli strike on an Iranian-backed Lebanese Shiite group, Hezbollah, on the southern outskirts of Beirut.
It is known that Iran has repeatedly warned that they will attack Israel if the Lebanese capital is targeted.
