BI Records Primary Money in May 2026 Growing 14.2 Percent to Rp2.214.6 Trillion
Bank Indonesia (BI) reported that the primary money or monetary base (M0) Adjusted in May 2026 reached Rp2,214.6 trillion, or grew 14.2 percent year on year (yoy).
This figure still shows growth, although slightly lower than April 2026 which was recorded to have grown 14.3 percent (yoy).
Head of the Communication Department of Bank Indonesia Ramdan Denny Prakoso said that the growth of primary money in the period was driven by the increase in general bank giro at Bank Indonesia as well as the increase in circulating cash in the community.
"Primary money (M0) Adjusted in May 2026 grew 14.2 percent (yoy), continuing the growth in April 2026 at 14.3 percent (yoy) so that it was recorded at Rp2,214.6 trillion," he said in an official statement, Monday, June 8.
He explained that the growth of primary money was mainly supported by the increase in general bank deposits at Bank Indonesia Adjusted which grew 17.4 percent year-on-year.
On the other hand, the circulating kartal money also increased by 15.8 percent compared to the same period last year.
Bank Indonesia assessed that this development reflects the liquidity conditions in the financial system which are still well maintained.
In addition, the growth of M0 has also taken into account the impact of providing liquidity incentives through adjusted monetary control policies.
"Based on the factors that affect it, the growth of Adjusted M0 has considered the impact of the provision of liquidity incentives (adjusted monetary control)," he said.
Bank Indonesia previously emphasized that it would continue to maintain the adequacy of liquidity in the money and banking markets to support financial system stability while encouraging credit distribution for economic growth.
