KSPI Welcomes the News that Said Iqbal Will Enter the Prabowo Cabinet
JAKARTA - The Indonesian Workers' Confederation (KSPI) welcomes the news that President Prabowo Subianto will appoint KSPI President Said Iqbal as part of the Red and White Cabinet. The presence of labor figures in the government is considered to strengthen efforts to resolve various employment and national economic issues.
Deputy Chairman of the KSPI Arnod Sihite said the appointment of Said Iqbal would be a strategic step in the midst of various challenges that Indonesia is still facing, ranging from slowing global economic growth to worker welfare issues.
According to Arnod, the labor movement today is no longer only focused on industrial relations issues. Many labor leaders have developed into leaders in various fields, including politics, academia, law, and community organizations.
"The presence of labor figures in the government can be an additional strength for the president to find solutions to various national issues," said Arnod in a written statement in Jakarta, Saturday, June 7, quoted from Antara.
He assessed that the experience of labor activists in fighting for workers' rights can be an important capital in formulating policies that are more in favor of the community.
Arnod also cited a number of figures with a background in the labor movement who are currently occupying strategic positions in various state institutions. This condition shows that labor organizations are able to produce cadres who have leadership capacity at the national level.
According to him, workers should not only be seen as objects of development, but also as an important part of the national development process. With greater involvement in government, workers' voices can be channeled more effectively through concrete policies and regulations.
Although supporting the involvement of labor figures in the cabinet, Arnod emphasized that every appointment of public officials must still consider competence, organizational needs, and government effectiveness.
He reminded the government to avoid policies that are symbolic or merely populist. Each position must have clear tasks, functions, and authorities so that there is no overlap in implementation.
Furthermore, Arnod hopes that the inclusion of labor figures in the government can open up a wider space to fight for workers' rights, including labor protection, improved welfare, and the creation of quality jobs.
In addition, he invited all workers in Indonesia to maintain solidarity and continue to contribute to supporting national economic growth.
According to him, increased investment, stability of the rupiah exchange rate, inflation control, and increased employment opportunities are important factors that must continue to be encouraged in order to improve people's welfare.
"We hope that the involvement of labor figures in the government can provide real benefits for workers while supporting a more inclusive and equitable national development," said Arnod.
In the midst of the ongoing global economic challenges, he emphasized that the spirit of unity and mutual cooperation is the key to maintaining economic resilience and realizing more equitable prosperity for all Indonesian people.
