Test Ahead of the World Cup, Brazil Beat Egypt 2-1
JAKARTA - The Brazilian national team won 2-1 over Egypt in an international friendly match ahead of the 2026 World Cup at the Huntington Bank Field Stadium, Ohio, USA, Sunday WIB.
Brazil immediately took the initiative of the attack from the first minute through the combination of Vinicius Junior, Raphinha, and Igor Thiago. The pressure carried out by Carlo Ancelotti's team finally bore fruit in the seventh minute when Bruno Guimaraes managed to take advantage of the Egyptian defense's hesitation to score the opening goal. The goal gave Brazil a 1-0 lead.
However, Brazil's advantage did not last long. Only four minutes later, Egypt was able to equalize to 1-1 through Mostafa Zaki Abdelraouf.
The goal started from a mistake by the Brazilian backline after Marquinhos made a backpass that led to the Egyptian player. The mistake was well used by the Egyptian striker to defeat Alisson Becker.
After the score was tied again, the match became more open. Brazil continued to dominate possession of the ball and more often pressed the Egyptian defense. The first half statistics showed that Brazil had a 58 percent ball possession and created more opportunities than their opponents.
However, Egypt was disciplined in defending and occasionally launched quick counterattacks through Omar Marmoush and Trezeguet. Egyptian goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir also made several important saves that thwarted Brazil's chances.
In the middle of the first half, Brazil got into trouble after Wesley was injured and had to be pulled off the field. Towards halftime, Brazil continued to try to add a goal through pressure from the wings and long-range shots, but Egypt's defense was still able to hold on. Until the first half ended, the score remained tied 1-1.
Brazil immediately increased the intensity of the attack after halftime. Ancelotti made several changes to add creativity to the midfield and the speed of the attack from the wings. The Samba team again dominated possession of the ball and continued to pressure the Egyptian defense.
Egypt did not stay silent. Coach Hossam Hassan included several fresh players including Mohamed Salah who was previously on the bench. Salah's presence made Egypt's counterattack more dangerous, especially through a combination with Omar Marmoush on the front side.
Brazil's pressure finally bore fruit through Endrick's goal in the 52nd minute. The Samba team managed to score the second goal after taking advantage of a gap in Egypt's defense in a quick attack situation to change the score to 2-1.
After falling behind, Egypt tried to increase the tempo of the game in the final minutes. Salah and Marmoush tried several times to penetrate the Brazilian defense, but the Selecao's back line was able to defend well until the end of the match.
