Gaza Health Crisis Worsens, Thousands of Patients' Lives at Risk

JAKARTA - The worsening health crisis in the Gaza Strip, Palestine, threatens the lives of thousands of patients due to a shortage of medicines and essential medical supplies and the postponement of thousands of surgeries.

According to medical sources, more than 4,000 cancer patients and thousands of patients undergoing dialysis are now at serious risk of not getting the essential medicines they need to survive.

Reported by ANTARA from WAFA, Friday, June 5, more than a third of the drugs on the essential drugs list were reported to be exhausted.

The source explained that 726 types of drugs, disposable medical materials, and laboratory equipment are currently not available in the central medical warehouse.

The number includes 180 of 520 essential drugs and 50 of 97 oncology drugs.

Severe crises also occurred in dialysis filters, surgical sutures, and cardiac catheterization materials, which forced the postponement of a number of surgeries and medical procedures.

Medical sources also reported the exhaustion of supplies of 79 laboratory equipment and 265 special medical equipment.

Meanwhile, more than 11,000 operations have been delayed due to ongoing supply shortages and financial constraints.
