Regarding layoffs in the Mining Sector due to Production Quota Cuts, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources said this.
JAKARTA - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has spoken out regarding the news of job cuts (PHK) in the mining sector.
For information, the issue of layoffs is believed to be the reduction of mineral and coal production quotas (minerba) in the 2026 Work Plan and Budget (RKAB).
Director General of Mineral and Coal (Minerba) of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Tri Winarno, said the government would continue to evaluate the RKAB policy, including opening opportunities for business actors to submit revisions to production quotas.
Tri said that the submission of revisions can be made by business actors in the period 1-31 July 2026 if they feel that the quota given is too burdensome for the company.
"If you apply, yes, July, the latest is July 31. But about how much and so on, it depends on it later," said Tri, quoted Friday, June 5.
Tri assessed that the reduction in production quotas should not have too much impact on the financial condition of mining companies. This is because the price of a number of mining commodities, especially coal, is still at a relatively high level.
On the other hand, the rupiah exchange rate, which has now reached Rp18,000 against the US dollar, is considered to maintain the company's export-oriented income.
"If you look at coal production until May 15, it turns out that our production has decreased, but the income is not so much down, it's safe," he said.
He added that the policy of regulating production quotas was carried out by considering the sustainability of the mining sector in the long term as well as domestic needs.
"But the point we are conveying, we will sell minerals and coal at the price they should be, don't be too cheap, but don't let our needs be disrupted," said Tri.
