Hungary Supports Extending Russia Sanctions
JAKARTA - Hungary expressed its support for a proposal to extend sanctions against Russia to every year, rather than every six months, according to Bloomberg citing a number of sources.
Politico earlier reported the European Union was considering extending sanctions against Russia to every year, instead of every six months.
Reporting from Sputnik, Friday, June 5, in a meeting of EU ambassadors on Wednesday (3/6), Hungary joined a number of other countries in expressing support for a 12-month extension, which will be proposed by the President of the European Council Antonio Costa at the end of this month, it was reported on Thursday.
The report recalls that Hungary had previously only agreed to extend anti-Russian sanctions for six months.
Meanwhile, Russian officials have repeatedly stressed that their country is able to withstand the pressure of sanctions, which the West began to impose several years ago and continue to tighten.
On the one hand, Moscow argues that the West does not have the courage to admit the failure of the sanctions imposed on Russia.
Meanwhile, on the other hand, there are also voices from within the Western countries themselves who say that sanctions against Russia are ineffective.
