Abbas Araghchi: Strait of Hormuz is managed jointly with Oman in accordance with international law
JAKARTA - Iranian Foreign Minister (Menlu) Abbas Araghchi said Iran and Oman would jointly manage the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with international law.
In a statement broadcast by the Iranian Government television station IRIB, quoting the Lebanese television station Al Mayadeen, Thursday (4/6), Foreign Minister Araghchi said Iran and Oman - as two countries bordering the strategic waterway - have "natural rights" to coordinate and make decisions regarding the management of the Strait of Hormuz.
He said Iran would exchange views with Gulf countries on developments related to the Strait of Hormuz. However, Araghchimenekankankeputusan mengenai pengelolaan selat itu pada akhirnya akan dilakukan oleh Iran dan Oman.
Araghchi said the efforts of both parties aimed to ensure safe passage for all ships through the strait in accordance with international law.
In the broadcast, Araghchi said that communication with the Supreme Leader of Iran Mojtaba Khameneiterus continued and Khamenei's instructions were received and implemented in a timely manner.
He also added that there was a broad national consensus around Iran's leadership and that the affairs of the Iranian state were going in a very good direction.
