Trump Slams US House Resolution to Stop War in Iran as Unpatriotic
JAKARTA - President Donald Trump on Thursday condemned a vote in the US House of Representatives seeking to order a withdrawal of US forces from the war with Iran, saying the "unpatriotic" move was interfering with negotiations with Tehran.
"This vote, which is largely symbolic, took place 'right in the middle of my last negotiations to end the war with the Islamic Republic of Iran'," Trump said in a post on his Truth Social platform, Al Arabiya reported (4/6).
"Who would do such unpatriotic things? They know how the negotiations are going," he said.
In a significant rebuke of President Trump, four members of the Republican majority joined Democrats on Wednesday to support the measure, which passed 215-208 and now heads to the Senate.
The measure, which would ultimately face a presidential veto, marks the first time a Republican-controlled House of Representatives has approved a measure seeking to force Trump to end military operations against Tehran since the war began three months ago.
The Democratic Party accused President Trump of violating the constitution by launching an attack on Iran with Israel in late February without congressional authorization.
Under the War Powers Act, the President has 60 days to get congressional approval after deploying US forces into hostilities.
That deadline passed weeks ago, and Democrats say President Trump is now breaking the law.
"(The Democratic Party) would rather see our country fail than give me another victory, out of many victories," Trump said.
"Four Republicans, that's a whole different story - They're just looking for attention! They should be ashamed of themselves."
