Motjaba Khamenei asks Iranian people to maintain unity, thwart enemy's attempts
JAKARTA - Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei on Thursday (4/6) called on the country's citizens to maintain unity and reject division in order to thwart "enemy efforts" to destabilize Iran.
According to a report by Mehr News Agency, Khamenei made the call in a message commemorating the 37th anniversary of the death of former Supreme Leader Ruhollah Khomeini.
He emphasized the importance of maintaining cohesion between the community and government officials.
"The enemy is waging a hybrid war against our country, through military and psychological warfare," he said without explicitly mentioning the United States and Israel.
Khamenei added that the enemy had been defeated militarily and was now trying to reverse the situation by sowing discord and division among the Iranian nation to achieve its evil goals.
He stressed that maintaining unity among the Iranian people and state institutions is very important to thwart the enemy's plans.
Khamenei's statement came amid the most intense hostilities between Iran and the US since the ceasefire came into effect in early April.
This week, Iran launched a dandroneyang missile targeting US military installations in the region as well as Kuwait International Airport which claimed one life.
Regional tensions have escalated since late February after the US and Israel launched air raids on Iran that killed more than 3,000 people.
In response, Iran attacked Israel and the Gulf states hosting US military bases as well as closing the Strait of Hormuz, an important shipping lane for global trade.
The ceasefire brokered by Pakistan came into effect on April 8, while efforts to reach a wider agreement have continued since then.
US President Donald Trump has repeatedly said a final deal to end the war is close, including reopening the Strait of Hormuz, halting Iran's nuclear program, and eliminating stockpiles of enriched uranium.
