Jibom Team Secures 2 Mortars Left Over from World War II in Doyo Jayapura
JAYAPURA - The Gegana Brimob Bomb Disposal Team (Jibom) of the Papua Police secured two World War II (PD) remnants from the land of Doyo residents, Jayapura Regency.
Head of Public Relations of the Papua Police, Kombes Cahyo Sukarnitomengatakan, the discovery of the mortar relics of World War II was initially reported by residents, Wednesday (3/6) evening who were working on land in Dister Parako 3 Pasgat, around the side of the Silas Papare Air Force Shooting Field, Doyo Baru Village, Hinekombe, Waibu District, Jayapura Regency.
"The ammunition found is a type of mortar, which is a legacy of the Second World War," said Kombes Cahyo Sukarnito, Thursday, June 4, as reported by ANTARA.
He said that immediately after the resident reported it, the police took initial security measures by closing access around the location and urging residents to stay away from the area of the findings to avoid potential dangers.
Previously, on Tuesday (2/6), Cahyo said, the public found UXO (Unexploded Ordnance) explosives in the Aryau River, BTN Dunlop Complex, Sentani, Jayapura Regency.
The object which is a relic of World War II is a UXO type MK.28 USN (Air Craft) Incendiary which is suspected to be still active and has the potential for high explosion danger to the safety of the community around the location.
Based on the results of identification in the field, the object is not recommended to be moved because it is high risk so that the Jibom team takes steps by performing disposal on site (on-site disposal) according to standard operating procedures for handling explosives.
"The disposal process is carried out in two stages and runs safely and under control, without causing any impact on the community or the surrounding environment," said Kombes Cahyo Sukarnito.
