Kodam Uji Forensic Forensics of the Stray Bullet Incident at UNP

PADANG - The Regional Military Command (Kodam) XX/Tuanku Imam Bonjol said that until now it is still conducting ballistic forensic tests on the incident of "stray" bullets that hit two civilians in the Padang State University area, West Sumatra.

"For the projectile, it is still under forensic examination and the investigation team is still conducting the crime scene," said the Head of Public Information of the XX/Tuanku Imam Bonjol Military Command (Kapendam) Colonel Kav Taufiq in Padang City, Thursday, June 4, reported by ANTARA.

In the investigation, Kodam XX/Tuanku Imam Bonjol also cooperated with a team from Jakarta, especially regarding ballistic tests. Currently, the TNI is still working and collecting various needed information.

Kapendam did not deny that stray bullets could have come from TNI personnel who were carrying out shooting exercises at the Lapai Shooting Field, Padang City.

"There is a possibility but it is still being forensically tested," he said.

Colonel Taufiq ensured that the TNI would work professionally, transparently and accountably in uncovering the stray bullet case that hit two civilians on Tuesday (2/6) in the area of the Rectorate of the State University of Padang.

From the results of the initial investigation presented on Wednesday (3/6), the Kapendam said the projectile that hit the victim was known to be nine millimeters in size. At the time of the incident, the Infantry Battalion (Yonif) TP 897/Singgalang was undergoing a shooting exercise.

He said that during the exercise, soldiers not only used long-barreled weapons, but also short-barreled weapons. However, the investigation team still needs time to check the process of carrying out the exercise until the scene of the crime.

"His name is to investigate all possibilities. We try to dig as deep as possible and hopefully we can come to a conclusion," he hoped.

Finally, if it is later found that there are personnel who violate standard operating procedures, they will be given sanctions in accordance with the applicable provisions.

"The point is not to be afraid, not to worry, we will be transparent," he said.
