"Night Shift for Cuties" Series is Monica Tedja's Admiration for the Entertainment Industry

JAKARTA - Netflix Indonesia presents the series Night Shift for Cuties which is Monica Tedja's debut work in the form of a series. This series brings together Shenina Cinnamon and Nadya Syarifa in a story set in the entertainment world.

Night Shift for Cuties tells the story of Muti (Shenina Cinnamon) and Jenar (Nadya Syarifa), two people who are friends at a supermarket. Because of their love for the same K-pop group, they are determined to watch a concert in South Korea that is filled with challenges from their world and around them.

"I was inspired by my friend who is ARMY (a term for BTS group fans). I was friends with him before he became an ARMY and he was completely different, his eyes were shining, his personality, how to look good, have a passion for life and from there I became interested in discussing that passion," said Monica Tedja in a press conference in South Jakarta on Thursday, June 4.

Producer Aline Djayasukmana, this series not only tells the admiration for the K-pop industry but also becomes a form of criticism of a world that often demands women.

"Something interesting and why girl-groups because it's something close to us and we experience navigating this mens world, how the women's challenges are many, especially when we are idols of thinness, appearance, you can't be old. In general, all industries challenge for women are very high. One example of the leader of this girl-group plus size Boki who we want to try to break the barrier," said Aline.

Shenina Cinnamon and Nadya Syarifa also shared their closeness thanks to the Night Shift for Cuties series. Both of them who are fond of the music world feel close and relate to their characters and stories.

"I learned a lot of k-pop from Nadya so I didn't go anywhere, just from him. We've met before but he interviewed me. Working with Nadya is amazing. There's no need to find chemistry," said Shenina Cinnamon.

"I'm happy to express myself with acting now. Maybe because it was right when I found the reference XG, NewJeans. But I feel related to Jenar's character and the stories and topics discussed so when I called it directly, I felt like this is a right project," said Nadya Syarifa in her first acting debut.

The Night Shift for Cuties series is also played by Emir Mahira, Gabrielle Novangeline, Ryou Jau Hyun, Kim Ye Jin, Baek Seo Ra, and others.

With 8 episodes, the Night Shift for Cuties series can be watched starting Thursday, June 4 on Netflix.
