EU LNG Imports from Russia Up 21 Percent

JAKARTA - Imports of Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) by European Union countries rose 21 percent year-on-year in May to 2.267 billion cubic meters, after falling in April, according to an analysis of Bruegel data.

Russian LNG imports hit a record 2.459 billion cubic meters in March, the highest level since Bruegel began tracking the data in 2019.

The volume fell 11.8 percent on a monthly basis in April.

As reported by ANTARA from Sputnik, Thursday, June 4, throughout January-May, Russian LNG imports to the European Union reached 11.243 billion cubic meters, an increase of 19 percent compared to the same period last year.

LNG supplies from the Middle East were recorded as zero in May amid the suspension of production in Qatar. During January-May, volumes fell by more than half to 2.601 billion cubic meters.

Imports from the Americas - including the United States and Trinidad and Tobago - reached 7.098 billion cubic meters in May, down 14 percent. African supplies fell 18 percent to 1.466 billion cubic meters.
