JAKARTA - The Hyundai Ioniq V was caught on camera in a form that is almost ready to be mass-produced in China. This fastback-style electric sedan comes with a modern design that emphasizes aerodynamic efficiency, combined with frameless doors and futuristic lighting identity that is a hallmark of the latest electric vehicles from the South Korean manufacturer.

The latest sighting confirms the design direction that Hyundai had previously shown at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show as well as a number of circulating regulatory documents. However, this time, the vehicle looks more mature with a more neat body panel finish and lighting system that appears to have entered the final stage of production.

Dimensionally, the Hyundai Ioniq V has a length of 4,900 mm, a width of 1,890 mm, a height of 1,470 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,900 mm. These sizes place it in the mid-size electric sedan segment, which is currently one of the most competitive markets in China.

In terms of design, Hyundai seeks to maximize air efficiency through a fastback roof line that flows smoothly from front to back. The use of frameless doors and semi-hidden door handles helps create a clean side view.

Meanwhile, the body indentation is designed to provide a visual character without sacrificing efficiency. On the back, the elongated lights that stretch fully are combined with a compact-sized diffuser element to maintain aerodynamic performance.

Entering the cabin, the Ioniq V carries a digital layout with an integrated 4K dual 27-inch screen, and is supported by a head-up display. All systems are operated via a Snapdragon 8295 chip which is claimed to be able to provide fast processing for infotainment needs, voice commands, and the simultaneous operation of various vehicle functions.

The Level 2+ driving assistance feature developed jointly with Momenta is also one of the mainstays of this model. The system includes navigation assistance on toll roads, the ability to Navigate on Autopilot (NOA) for urban areas, to automatic parking features.

Hyundai also equipped the cabin with a layered ambient lighting that strengthens the digital and modern feel of the interior. For the Chinese market, the Hyundai Ioniq V will be available in both Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) and Extended Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) configurations.

The various variants are in line with the company's dual electrification strategy to meet the diverse needs of consumers. The electric motor options offered include variants with 140 kW or around 190 hp and 168 kW or around 228 hp.

The car also adopts an 800-volt electrical architecture that allows for faster DC charging with higher efficiency on supporting infrastructure. Meanwhile, the battery pack supplied by CATL is designed to provide optimal energy storage capacity while maintaining thermal stability in various usage conditions.

The presence of Ioniq V is an important step for Hyundai amid the pressure that still overshadows its performance in the Chinese automotive market. Based on China EV DataTracker data, Hyundai's sales in April 2026 were recorded at 5,412 units with a market share of only 0.4 percent, continuing the downward trend that has been taking place in recent months.

With this condition, the Hyundai Ioniq V is not only positioned as a new model, but also as an effort by the company to rebuild its competitiveness in the mid-range electric sedan segment. The main focus of this model is more directed at strengthening Hyundai's image of technology and innovation in the Chinese market rather than just chasing sales volumes.
