Fadli Zon Encourage Acceleration of Revitalization of National Museum and Cultural Heritage Sites
JAKARTA - The Ministry of Culture has accelerated the agenda for the revitalization of museums and cultural heritages in various regions. A number of projects discussed include the development of the National Museum, the restoration of historical sites, to the opening of new museums that are expected to strengthen the preservation of Indonesian cultural heritage.
This step is one of the focuses of the meeting between Minister of Culture Fadli Zon with the Museum and Cultural Heritage Patron Board at the National Museum of Indonesia, Jakarta, Wednesday (3/6).
During the meeting, Fadli emphasized that the revitalization of museums and cultural heritage is not only related to the preservation of history, but also an effort to utilize cultural heritage as an asset that adds value to the community.
"Revitalization of museums and cultural heritage is our priority to preserve the heritage of our ancestors while making it an economic resource and the pride of the nation," said Fadli.
One of the main concerns is improving the quality of the Indonesian National Museum so that it can become a reference for other museums in the country.
According to Fadli, the improvement was carried out through the improvement of facilities, collection arrangement, and the opening of new exhibitions of higher quality.
"We want the National Museum to be an example for other museums in Indonesia through the improvement of facilities, arrangement of collections, and the opening of new quality exhibitions," he said.
In addition to the National Museum, the meeting also discussed the development of revitalization of a number of important cultural heritage sites, including the Jabung Temple in Probolinggo and the Muarajambi percandian area in Jambi. The Ministry is also preparing the revitalization of a number of palaces, the development of exhibition spaces for important collections, the construction of visible storage or storage spaces for collections that can be accessed by the public, to the restoration of the Gunung Padang site.
The opening of the Sriwijaya Museum and the strengthening of the promotion of sustainable cultural tourism are also on the agenda for discussion.
The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Museum and Cultural Heritage Hashim Djojohadikusumo expressed his support for various programs being carried out by the Ministry of Culture.
"I welcome and am ready to support the development of the National Museum as a form of respect for the history and cultural heritage of the nation," said Hashim.
The meeting was also attended by members of the Garibaldi Thohir Museum and Cultural Heritage Board, Tommy Winata, and Karuna Murdaya. Also present were Deputy Minister of Culture Giring Ganesha, Secretary General Bambang Wibawarta, Director General of Cultural and Traditional Protection Restu Gunawan, Head of the Museum and Cultural Heritage Indira Estiyanti Nurjadin, and a number of other officials from the Ministry of Culture.
The discussion marked the government's efforts to accelerate the arrangement of museums and cultural heritage in various regions which have long been an important part of Indonesia's historical identity.
