Artistic Interpretation of Maliq D'Essentials Songs to be Presented in the Musical Senja Teduh Pelita

JAKARTA - Musical performances are gaining momentum with the enthusiasm of the audience who want to watch. One of the shows that caught the attention was titled Musikal Senja Teduh Pelita, a collaboration between Jakarta Movin and Maliq & D'Essentials, supported by Indonesia Kaya.

This performance is inspired by the works of Maliq & D'Essentials music which is interpreted more broadly. The dimensions in interpreting the lyrics and the music are expanded, so that new imaginations and values that may not have been imagined before are created.

"Adapting MALIQ & D'Essentials' songs that are rich in messages about life, hope, and humanity, this performance presents an experience close to various generations of audiences. We are proud to support works that are born from a collective of performing arts that consistently open up space for young generations to engage, learn, and work," said Billy Gamaliel, Program Manager Indonesia Kaya in a press conference at Galeri Indonesia Kaya, Jakarta 3 June.

"Efforts like this are very important to encourage more young talents to participate in the world of performing arts, so that the Indonesian performing arts ecosystem can continue to grow, be sustainable, and produce quality works in the future," he added.

The musical Senja Teduh Pelita was initiated by Nuya Susantono as the Director & Scriptwriter, who received a lot of enlightenment from the music catalog of Maliq & D'Essentials. This performance will present a total of 20 MAD songs that are poured into stories with a sci-fi, drama and adventure feel.

This story tells the story of a child named Arah (Alf Elijah Sigarlaki and Daria Lakshmi Algamar) forming the Pasukan Pelita, a group consisting of nine children with different abilities. Together with Kala (Xandrea Abigail Tabythaputri and Clioichi Junio Eigo) the world historian, Volta (Sahlendra Syarief) who mastered electricity and mechanics, Lanit (Mavisha Reakana) the star reader, Hara (Emily Olivia) the plant expert, Palu (Nayaka Maleakhi) who is good at building, Raga (Nadindra Gynta) the climber, Binbin (J. Rizhan) who understands animals, and Lagu (Annabella Farizky) who is sensitive to music and sound, Arah leads a journey to find new hope for the future.

The idea of turning musical works into musical performances was enthusiastically welcomed by the members of Maliq & D'Essentials. They are very open to creative interpretations of works, and support the expansion of art in different forms.

"The musical Senja Teduh Pelita presents a new perspective on our works, and it is something we really appreciate. Seeing songs that have been alive through recordings and concert stages translated into a complete narrative on the musical stage is a happy and proud experience for us. For MALIQ & D'Essentials, this collaboration is not just an adaptation of songs to a different medium, but also an opportunity to see our music live, move, and find new meaning in front of the audience," explained Angga Puradiredja.

This performance is an interesting treat across generations, as is the reach of MAD's works which have been in business for 24 years. Their works are enjoyed by those who are big in the 90s to the Gen-Z generation today.

Therefore, it is no wonder that the enthusiasm of the audience to welcome this show is very large. In three days, ticket sales for July 3-5 were declared sold out. Therefore, new dates have been opened for the next three schedules on July 10-12.

The musical Senja Teduh Pelita will be shown from July 3-12, 2026 at Graha Bhakti Budaya, Taman Ismail Marzuki, Jakarta. Tickets for additional shows can be purchased through the Tiket.com platform starting June 3 at 7 p.m.
