China Urges US and Iran to Comply with Ceasefire

China urged the United States and Iran to abide by the ceasefire and avoid a return to war.

"China is very concerned about the current situation," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning told reporters in Beijing, Wednesday, June 3, reported by ANTARA.

The statement was made after the United States admitted launching an attack on Qeshm Island, in response to Iran's alleged attacks in various regions of the Middle East. Washington also stated that the US military and allied forces had intercepted a number of Iranian missiles and drones.

Mao said a resumption of war would not benefit anyone.

"We hope that the parties concerned can appreciate the opportunity for peace, comply with the ceasefire commitment, and maintain the momentum of negotiations, as well as adhere to the settlement of disputes through political and diplomatic means," he said.

Mao Ning asked the warring parties to immediately implement a comprehensive and sustainable ceasefire and create conditions for restoring peace and tranquility in the Middle East.

Meanwhile, Kuwait said its air defense system had intercepted a drone missile attack, which it described as an "hostile" act on Wednesday morning.

The United States and Iran are again engaged in mutual attacks through air raids despite the ceasefire having been in effect since April 8. The conflict began after the US and Israel began attacking Iran on February 28.
