RI-Malaysia Strengthen the Economy to Face Global Supply Chain Disruptions
JAKARTA - Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan will lead the Malaysian delegation to the 17th Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC) between Malaysia and Indonesia, which will be held in Jakarta, Thursday, June 4.
In a press statement from the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Malaysian Minister of Foreign Affairs will be accompanied by senior government officials from various related institutions.
The JCBC will be jointly chaired by the Malaysian Foreign Minister and the Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono.
Amid the increasing disruption to the global supply chain, the 17th JCBC will prioritize strengthening the economic cooperation between Malaysia and Indonesia to maintain the economic resilience of both countries.
Malaysia will direct discussions on concrete steps that can be taken together to reduce the impact of external shocks on trade flows, energy security, food supply, and the availability of strategic raw materials for industry.
As reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, June 3, this meeting will also follow up on the decisions that have been reached by the Prime Minister of Malaysia and the President of the Republic of Indonesia in the 13th Annual Consultation which took place in Jakarta on July 29, 2025.
Prior to the ministerial-level meeting, a Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM) had been held.
As a reflection of the priorities of both countries in facing global supply chain disruptions through bilateral measures, the agenda of the meeting will pay special attention to trade and investment facilitation, strengthening cross-border supply chain connectivity, energy cooperation, and food security.
Other topics expected to be discussed include maritime boundary delimitation and land boundary demarcation, cross-border and border trade, halal industry cooperation, defense and security, environmental management and disaster management, as well as various other issues of mutual interest.
The 17th JCBC is a follow-up to the 13th Annual Consultation between the Prime Minister of Malaysia and the President of the Republic of Indonesia which was held in Jakarta on July 29, 2025, and will also be the basis for determining the direction for the 14th Annual Consultation to be held by Malaysia at the end of this year.
