Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Visits RI, Discusses Bilateral Cooperation to Global Conditions
JAKARTA - The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey (Turkiye) Hakan Fidan is scheduled to pay an official visit to Indonesia on Wednesday (3/6) to discuss the expansion of bilateral cooperation, the improvement of trade and defense relations, and addressing regional and global security challenges.
Fidan is said to discuss steps to further strengthen cooperation in various sectors in accordance with the political will shown by the leaders of the two countries, according to a source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkiye, Tuesday, June 2, reported by ANTARA from Anadolu.
He is expected to emphasize the importance of deepening cooperation in the fields of infrastructure, energy, transportation, digitization, artificial intelligence, high technology, and halal food industries to help increase the bilateral trade volume to 10 billion US dollars (about Rp178.3 trillion).
Fidan will also review ongoing defense industry projects and assess the potential for new areas of cooperation.
Regarding Gaza, Fidan will reiterate that Turkey and Indonesia remain in close dialogue regarding developments in Palestine and will continue joint efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkiye, Fidan will also emphasize the need for coordinated international action in response to Israel's violations of the ceasefire in Gaza, provocative actions in the West Bank and occupied East Jerusalem, and the expansion of the occupation carried out by Israeli forces in Lebanon.
During his visit to Jakarta, Fidan is expected to discuss developments involving Iran and the Strait of Hormuz, Syria, the Russia-Ukraine war, Somalia, Sudan, and Libya, as well as broader regional and global security issues in the Asia-Pacific region.
Fidan last visited Indonesia in February 2025 as part of the official visit of President of Turkiye Recep Tayyip Erdogan to the country. The relationship between Turkiye and Indonesia, whose historical ties date back to the 15th century, was upgraded to a strategic partnership in 2011.
The High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council, which was formed during Erdogan's visit to Indonesia in 2022, held its first meeting in Jakarta in February 2025. The next meeting is expected to take place in Turkiye in 2027.
The two countries held their first 2+2 Foreign and Defense Ministerial Meeting in Ankara in January 2026.
Bilateral trade volume exceeds 2.5 billion US dollars (Rp44.57 trillion) in 2025, and both countries aim to increase it to 10 billion US dollars in accordance with the target announced during Erdogan's visit to Indonesia last year.
