The public's enthusiasm for this program can be seen from the 244 applicants who come from Bandung City and Regency, as well as a number of other areas such as Bekasi, Subang, Garut, Tasikmalaya, to Majalengka. Based on the health screening results held on May 23, 2026 at Balerea, Plaza Summarecon Bandung, as many as 104 patients were declared eligible to undergo the procedure, consisting of 102 cataract patients and 2 pterigium patients, namely the condition of the growth of the conjunctiva tissue that spreads to the cornea of the eye.
Cataract surgery program is chosen as one of the main focus of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in the 50th anniversary of Summarecon because it has a wide impact on the quality of life of the community. In addition to helping restore individual health, this program also contributes to improving the social and economic welfare of the beneficiaries.
The Free Cataract Operation Social Service Program is based on concern for the high number of visual impairment due to cataracts that are still experienced by the community, especially those who have economic constraints and access to health services. Loss of vision not only affects the individual's health condition, but also has an impact on productivity and the socio-economic conditions of the family. Through this program, Summarecon hopes to help reduce the risk of blindness which can actually be prevented through cataract surgery.
Gratitude was also expressed by Yayah, a participant in a free cataract surgery who can now see clearly again. The 60-year-old woman who works as a plastic glass picker admitted that she had been resigned to her vision due to limited funds to undergo surgery.
"I am very grateful and helped by this free cataract surgery. Now I can see clearly again and can go back to work to earn a living," he said.
This activity is part of the series of sustainable social programs of Summarecon, which also includes surgery of public facilities, surgery program of 500 houses, scholarship, assistance for educational facilities, to the Summarecon Mengajar program. Through various initiatives, Summarecon continues to strengthen its commitment to not only building an area, but also creating inclusive and sustainable social impact for the wider community.
