Ojol was cheated by his partner while queuing to change the battery of an electric motorcycle in Setiabudi.
JAKARTA - Police are investigating a case of alleged abuse of an online motorcycle taxi (ojol) driver that occurred at an electric motor battery exchange station (swap station) in the Karet Kuningan area, Setiabudi, South Jakarta.
Kasie Public Relations Officer of the South Jakarta Metro Police, AKP Joko Adi, said the victim had reported the incident to the Setiabudi Police and the case is now being handled by the Criminal Investigation Unit (Reskrim).
"The victim has come to the Setiabudi Police and has made a police report regarding the alleged persecution," said Joko, Tuesday.
According to him, investigators are still investigating the chronology of the incident, including the alleged involvement of fellow online motorcycle taxi drivers in the incident.
This case has come to the fore after the victim's confession video circulated on social media. In the video uploaded to the Instagram account @jabodetabek24info, the victim admitted that he was beaten while trying to exchange batteries at a swap station in the Karet Pedurenan area, South Jakarta.
The victim said that when he arrived at the location, he was blocked by a man who was allegedly a fellow ojol driver. The perpetrator was said to have prohibited him from exchanging batteries on the grounds that the operational service was closed.
The victim then tried to ascertain the conditions at the location by looking into the battery exchange station area. However, because he was carrying passengers and did not want to prolong the problem, he decided to leave the location without exchanging the battery.
However, when he was about to leave, the victim admitted that he was again blocked until there was a commotion that led to the alleged beating.
As a result of the incident, the passengers carried by the victim were said to have fled because they were afraid of seeing the conflict.
Until now, the police are still collecting information and evidence to reveal the incident clearly.
