Paula Abdul's Old Song Returns to the Spotlight After Being Used by Meghan Markle

JAKARTA - Paula Abdul was touched after her song, "Forever Your Girl", was used by Meghan Markle in an Instagram post to celebrate her eighth wedding anniversary with Prince Harry.

According to a report by People, quoted on Saturday, May 30, Paula Abdul discussed this while attending the American Music Awards at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas, Monday, May 25.

"I've never taken anything in my career for granted," Paula Abdul said. She said she still often had moments of "like pinching myself" and was touched to see her songs being heard by many people again.

The 1989 hit song is back in the spotlight after appearing in the film People We Meet on Vacation and being used by many people on TikTok.

Paula Abdul, 63, later found out Meghan used "Forever Your Girl" as the background music for her re-upload of her wedding anniversary with Harry.

On May 19, Meghan, 44, shared a number of never-before-seen wedding photos. One of them is a black-and-white photo of Meghan and Harry, 41, in the aisle of the roofed St. George's Chapel, Windsor. When the upload was reposted to Instagram Stories, Meghan added Abdul's song.

"I pinched myself and said, 'This is incredible,'" Paula Abdul told People.

Paula Abdul also reposted Meghan's post. "It's so sweet to hear 'Forever Your Girl' accompany these beautiful memories," she wrote. She also prayed that Meghan and Harry would continue to be filled with love and laughter.

"Forever Your Girl" was released as a single in 1989 after being the lead track on Paula Abdul's 1988 debut album. The music video was directed by David Fincher and featured a young Elijah Wood.

When the album was released, Paula Abdul held the record for the most successful debut album. She also became the first female singer to have four number one singles on the Billboard Hot 100 from her first album.

People reported that Meghan and Harry celebrated their wedding anniversary with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

They enjoyed lemon and elderflower cake, the same flavor as their wedding cake. Harry also gave Meghan a bronze sculpture of two penguins. Bronze is a symbol of strength for the eighth wedding anniversary. Penguins also have a personal meaning for the couple because they used to wear penguin costumes at the engagement party.

Meghan also received a handwritten card from British Airways crew while flying home from Geneva, Switzerland. The card contained a congratulatory birthday card for Harry and Meghan.

A source close to Meghan told People, the flight crew also gave champagne and British sweets to Harry and the children. Meghan was said to be very touched and wanted to thank them publicly.
