Ibrahima Konate Will Leave Liverpool for Free

JAKARTA - Ibrahima Konate will leave Liverpool with a free transfer status this summer.

The Frenchman has been negotiating with the club over a new contract since November 2023 and said in April 2026 that there was a "big chance" he would remain at Anfield.

However, the two parties were unable to agree on the final details and Konate will leave when his contract expires on June 30, 2026.

Konate joined Liverpool from RB Leipzig for £35 million in the summer of 2021. He made 183 appearances for the club, winning the FA Cup, two Carabao Cups, and the Premier League title.

"To be honest, a lot of things have been said by people, but we have been talking to the club for a long time and we are almost at an agreement."

"I think everyone wants that for as long as possible, but we're on a good track. Of course there's a big chance I'll be here next season."

"This is what I always wanted. I was waiting to finish the contract, but when everything is done, you have to ask (Liverpool Sports Director) Richard (Hughes) what I said to him in September, November, and he will say something to make everyone shut up," said Konate after Liverpool's victory over Everton 2-1 in April 2026.

Despite losing Konate, The Reds strengthened the defense last summer. They brought in Giovanni Leoni from Parma. However, the young player suffered an ACL injury on his debut in September 2025.

Rennes centre-back Jeremy Jacquet will also join the club in a deal worth £60m this summer.
