Not Pure EV, BYD Dolphin G DM-i Ready to Break the Market with DM-i Technology

JAKARTA - BYD is preparing a new weapon for the European market, the brand will launch the Dolphin but not all-electric but using DM-i or plug-in hybrid technology, which is indeed designed for overseas markets.

Citing the Carnewschina website, Friday, May 29, the price of the BYD Dolphin G DM-i will be announced in June, with deliveries scheduled for autumn 2026.

In detail, this model comes with a unique design language with thin headlights, active air intakes, and two air flows in the front bumper. It also comes with black-colored rims, semi-hidden door handles, and blacked-out D pillars that create a floating roof effect. This car has a surround-view camera system equipped with front and rear parking sensors.

The latest Dolphin G DM-i comes in orange. Its length reaches 4,160 mm, while its width is 1,825 mm. For comparison, this car is 130 mm shorter and 55 mm wider than the BEV version in Europe.

There is no information regarding the BYD Dolphin G DM-i drive system. There is a high probability that the drive system will be similar to the Atto 2 DM-i launched in overseas markets.

Thus, this car offers a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine with a peak power of 72 kW (97 hp) and an electric motor of 145 kW (194 hp). Two LFP battery variants are available for the Atto 2 DM-i with a capacity of 7.8 kWh and 18 kWh. The combined peak output is 156 kW (209 hp).

The electric range of this car ranges from 40 to 90 km in WLTP conditions. It was officially announced that the combined range of the BYD Dolphin G DM-i reaches 1,000 km.

More information about the Dolphin G DM-i will be revealed during the launch ceremony scheduled for June 2026. This is the first model developed specifically for Europe. In addition, there is a high probability that the Dolphin G DM-i will be one of the first models produced at BYD's European factory in Szeged, Hungary.
