Lebanese-Israeli Military Officials to Meet at Pentagon Today

JAKARTA - The Lebanese and Israeli military delegations are scheduled to meet under the auspices of the US at the Pentagon today, Friday, May 29 local time.

This is a new round of security talks between the two sides.

"The military meeting at the US Department of Defense in Washington remains on schedule under the auspices and facilitation of the Americans," an official Lebanese source told AN today.

Israel and Hezbollah preceded the meeting by exchanging fire after the Zionists continued to bombard southern Lebanon amid a ceasefire agreement.

Yesterday, Israeli airstrikes expanded in Lebanon, hitting the southern outskirts of Beirut for the first time since the extension of a 45-day ceasefire agreed in Washington on May 15.

Israel claimed the attack targeted a Hezbollah commander.

"Lebanon prioritizes, in its direct talks with the Israelis, the establishment of a ceasefire before moving to broader political or security issues," the source added.

In the last 48 hours, Israel has also expanded its military operations in southern Lebanon and the Bekaa Valley, forcing residents of Tyre and Nabatieh to flee, many of whom were killed as they evacuated.
