PU Ministry Adds 1,200 Workers to Complete People's School in West Kalimantan in June

JAKARTA - Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo targets that the construction of the People's School (SR) in West Kalimantan Province (Kalbar) can be completed on June 20, 2026. The three People's Schools that are being built in Kalbar include SR Pontianak, SR Singkawang and SR Pemprov Kalbar.

In order to pursue this target, the Ministry of PU has added 1,200 workers by implementing a two-shift work system.

This was conveyed by Dody when he directly reviewed the progress of the SR construction in Singkawang, Thursday, May 28.

Field visits are carried out to ensure that all acceleration needs can be immediately met while ensuring that the progress of work is in accordance with the reports received.

As of May 27, 2026, the overall cumulative realization of SR development in West Kalimantan reached 45.95 percent. For SR Kota Pontianak, the progress was recorded at 48.35 percent, SR Kota Singkawang at 45 percent and SR Pemprov Kalimantan Barat in Kota Singkawang reached 44.03 percent.

Specifically, in the City of Singkawang, the project was built on an area of 6.31 hectares with a total building area of 27,365 square meters. The project was carried out by the implementing contractor KSO WIKA-CIPTA-WEGE with a contract value of IDR 223.89 billion.

"I want to make sure what is missing and what is not. So, the report I received is not just a report on paper, but I check it directly in the field so that everything can be delivered on time," said Dody as quoted from a written statement, Friday, May 29.

To accelerate the completion of the project, the PU Ministry has added up to 1,200 workers and implemented a two-shift work system. In addition, the construction of an onsite batching plant and the addition of heavy equipment such as excavators, truck mixers, mobile cranes, and concrete pumps were carried out.

Dody said that his party had coordinated with Danantara and Himbara banks to help construction service providers who had cash flow problems.

"I appreciate Danantara's support, especially Mr. Dony Oskaria who helped encourage funding support so that work in the field could continue. I am also grateful to the TNI Commander for the assistance provided to support the acceleration of the construction of the People's School," he said.

He is also optimistic that the construction of SR in West Kalimantan can be completed on time, so that it can be used in the 2026/2027 New Academic Year.

"We must be optimistic. If I am not optimistic, how else? Optimism is first so that we can think about what we have to do to finish on time," he said.

Meanwhile, the Mayor of Singkawang Tjhai Chui Mie said that his party was ready to continue to monitor the acceleration of development so that the target for completion could be achieved according to schedule.

"On behalf of the Singkawang City Government and the people of Singkawang City, we thank the Minister who has come directly to review the progress of construction. We will continue to help and monitor the construction process so that the target that has been set can be achieved," he said.
