Paul McCartney Admits to Being Nervous and Thinking Every Time He Meets Bob Dylan
JAKARTA - Paul McCartney openly talked about his relationship with fellow legendary music icon, Bob Dylan. The Beatles' staff admitted that he always felt shy and nervous whenever he wanted to greet or approach the American folk musician, even though the two had known each other for more than six decades.
"I admire him, but you know, I don't know him very well," McCartney said in a recent interview with BBC Radio 2.
"George (Harrison) knew him very well because they were in the Traveling Wilburys together. I was a little nervous to approach him," he continued.
The 83-year-old musician also recounted a rare moment when he was invited privately by Dylan backstage at Coachella a few years ago. The one-on-one meeting in the big tent made McCartney do something wrong because Dylan actually threw praise to the sky to him.
"I went in to see him, and it was like, 'Wow'. It was just him and me in this big tent backstage. He was so complimentary, it was funny because it kind of embarrassed me a little bit. He said, 'You're a star'. I thought, what do I say in response to that? 'Thank you Bob, I love your work'," McCartney said.
On the other hand, Dylan himself never hesitated to show his admiration for McCartney. He once stated that McCartney was the only musician who could make him feel amazed.
"I'm amazed at McCartney. He's the only person who amazes me. He can do everything. And he never gives up... He does it very easily without any hard work," Dylan praised.
The news of this awkwardness was revealed in the midst of a big momentum for McCartney. He is scheduled to release his latest studio album, "The Boys Of Dungeon Lane", on May 29.
The album is highly anticipated by global music lovers as it contains the song "Home To Us", which is the first vocal collaboration in history between McCartney and the other Beatles, Ringo Starr.
