EMTA Enters Japan, a Mini Electric Car Designed in Japan but Made in China
JAKARTA - Japan will have a new brand in the mini electric car market. Its name is EMTA. Interestingly, the first model of this car will be designed in Japan, but produced in China.
Quoted from Kyodo News, Thursday, May 28, EMTA will be launched in Japan next year by EMT Co., a joint venture of five companies. Among them are Chery Automobile Co. from China and Autobacs Seven Co. from Japan.
The first model of EMTA is a mini electric car. EMT Co. is also preparing three additional models by 2029.
EMTA cars will use technology that is tailored to the character of each model. One of them is an update after the car is received by the consumer. The update includes driving performance and mileage.
Drivers can also set several features via a smartphone, such as seat position and air conditioning temperature.
For the first model, the product concept and design specifications will be decided in Japan. Production is planned to be carried out in China.
The price and sales target of the first model have not been determined. The company is also still considering the production of the next model in Japan.
The entry of EMTA makes the Japanese mini electric car market more attractive. The country has long been known for its strength in small cars. Now, new players are coming with a mixed recipe of Japanese design touches, Chinese factories, and technology that can be updated after the car reaches the hands of consumers.
