Kumala Murdaya and Five Ministry of LHK Officials Fail to Fulfill the Call of the Kaltara Prosecutor's Office

TANJUNG SELOR - The North Kalimantan High Prosecutor's Office (Kaltara) Special Criminal Investigation Team (Pidsus) continues to investigate the alleged mining case in Nunukan Regency.

During the investigation process, the investigators this time have summoned at least nine witnesses to be questioned from May 18 to 21. The witnesses come from the ministry and company parties suspected of being related to the case being handled.

A number of witnesses are known to have attended the call of the investigators, including representatives of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) or mine inspectors in Kaltara.

However, of the nine witnesses summoned, six other witnesses did not meet the call of the investigators. They consist of five officials of the Directorate General (Dirjen) at the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (LHK) and Kumala Murdaya as President Director of PT Sebuku Inti Plantation (PT SIP) who also served as Director of PT Central Cipta Murdaya (PT CCM).

The Head of the Kaltara Regional Attorney's Office, Andi Sugandi, when confirmed confirmed the absence of a number of witnesses. In fact, the summons had been carried out properly. Ironically, the 6 witnesses who were summoned did not provide any information or reasons for their absence.

"Yes, the investigation team has summoned a number of witnesses from the ministry and the company," said Andi, Tuesday, May 26.

"Some of them attended the call, there were also those who did not attend, namely five from the Director General of the Ministry of LHK and the brother of the KM as the President Director of PT SIP and Director of PT CCM," he continued.

He explained that the summons for the witnesses was still the first call. Investigators will reschedule the re-examination because their statements are considered important in the investigation process.

"This is still the first call. Next, it will be rescheduled for the sake of deepening the case," he explained.

Andi revealed that the summons letter had been sent about a week before the examination schedule.

"Kumala Murdaya is scheduled to attend on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, but did not attend," he said.

Andi added that during the investigation process, the investigation team had examined as many as 22 witnesses.

"Three of them are expert witnesses," he concluded. (*)
