"Colony" Film Gets 2 Million Viewers in Less than a Week, Fastest in Korea

JAKARTA - The latest zombie film, Colony, set a record in its screening in less than a week. In five days, the film gained 5 million viewers.

Launching the Korean Film Council (KOFIC), the film Colony received 2 million viewers in five days and became the fastest film with 2 million viewers in 2026. The film also reached that figure in a short time following The King's Warden and Salmokji: Whispering Waters.

Tuesday, May 26, the production company Showbox uploaded photos of the director and actors, namely Ji Chang Wook, Kim Shin Rok, Shin Hyun Been, Jun Ji Hyun and Koo Kyo Hwan posing with a two million audience balloon.

"Colony 2 million viewers. All of you, thank you!" the caption reads.

The film Colony tells the story of Se Jeong (Jun Ji Hyun), a biotechnology professor who attends a conference and witnesses a mutated virus in the form of a zombie. Se Jeong realizes that the emerging zombies are growing faster and endangering the facility.

The film stars Jun Ji Hyun, Ji Chang Wook, Shin Hyun Been, Kim Shin Rok, Koo Kyo Hwan, and Go Soo, among others.

Colony premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in the Midnight Screening section. When it was shown, the film received a standing ovation for 7 minutes.

This achievement also adds to the success of the Korean production house Showbox. They got success with the film The King's Warden with 16.2 million viewers and Salmokji with 3.2 million viewers.
