Pop-up Close and MBC Will Delete the "Perfect Crown" Scene Following the Controversy

JAKARTA - The controversy over the scene of the Korean drama "Perfect Crown" has begun to grow. South Korean television station MBC is rumored to be removing scenes that have received criticism from the public and closing the pop-up store sooner.

The scene in question is the scene of episode 11 which shows Prince I-an (Byeon Woo Seok) who undergoes the inauguration ceremony to become King wearing a nine-tiered crown instead of 12 which is intended for the sovereign emperor.

In addition, the people shouted "Cheonse" (a thousand years) a term for a subordinate country rather than using "Manse" (ten thousand years) which symbolizes an independent country.

Critics argue that the scene seems to emphasize China as part of Korea. Therefore, criticism related to the drama continues to grow to this day.

MBC confirmed that the scene would be removed from OTT (over the top), but it would take several days.

The pop-up store or temporary retail store held at The Hyundai Seoul in Yeongdeungpo closed earlier on Monday, May 25. This retail store sells several merchandise related to the drama "Perfect Crown".

This closure is three days faster than schedule. Initially, this pop-up store lasted until Saturday, May 30 this week. The organizer made a notification that the schedule was changed due to several operational reasons.

"We feel responsible and deeply apologize for giving you a sudden notice. We are discussing and we will share further information after it is finalized," the pop-up store said, launching Chosun on Tuesday, May 26.

On the other hand, the two main actors-IU and Byeon Woo Seok wrote an apology for the criticism given by the public. They also apologized for not delving into the characters and the story so that they missed this.

Then, director Park Jun-hwa and writer Yoo Ji-won also made an apology. Even so, the controversy continues to grow as petitions to remove the drama "Perfect Crown" began to emerge.
