Olivia Rodrigo Says Her New Single Is Not Related to The Cure

JAKARTA - After introducing drop dead, Olivia Rodrigo launched the cure as the second single from her upcoming new album.

Although the title is identical to the name of the legendary British rock band, The Cure, Rodrigo insists that his latest work has absolutely no historical or inspirational connection with the band known for the song "Boys Don't Cry".

To clear up the rumors that have been circulating, the 23-year-old singer-songwriter said the presence of the same title was purely a pleasant coincidence, considering that he is a huge fan of Robert Smith et al.

"To be honest, the song 'the cure' has nothing to do with that band. Although I really like them, it's just a happy coincidence," Rodrigo said in a recent interview on the Elvis Duran Show.

However, Rodrigo admitted that he was very proud of the final result of his new song. According to him, "the cure" brings a new color that shows his maturity in music - something he has never achieved in previous albums.

Although he denied that The Cure was the inspiration for his new song, Rodrigo actually revealed an interesting fact about his closeness to Robert Smith. This cross-generational relationship has apparently evolved into a very close friendship.

"I love him. We talk, like every week. He's amazing," Rodrigo said.

The closeness between the two is not a new secret. In June last year, the singer of 'vampire' surprised the public when he invited Robert Smith to the stage in his performance at Glastonbury to duet "Just Like Heaven" and "Friday I'm in Love".

Robert Smith himself once revealed his admiration for Rodrigo's talent. He even admitted to collecting physical releases of his junior's albums.

"I bought the album 'Sour', and then 'Guts' (both in CD form!). Although most of the songs on both albums are actually not 'intended for my age demographic', they are all so good that it's hard not to fall in love with the songs," Smith said in an interview with British Vogue some time ago.

For information, "drop dead" and "the cure" will be part of Olivia Rodrigo's third full album, "you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love", which will be released on June 12.
