The Ministry of Foreign Affairs provides economic diplomacy briefings ahead of the 100th anniversary of Jam Gadang

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs provides training for state civil servants (ASN) and stakeholders in West Sumatra, ahead of the 100th Anniversary of Jam Gadang which will be held in June.

The activity "Economic Diplomacy Briefing for Actors Interacting with Foreign Visitors" was held by the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on May 20-21.

The briefing given by the officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Eko Junor and Mardhiah Ridha, was attended by representatives from various institutions and companies in West Sumatra.

Partnering with InJourney Airport's Minangkabau International Airport branch, the training is designed to increase the capacity of stakeholders to be able to serve immigrants and especially optimize the readiness of the Provincial apparatus ahead of the 100th Anniversary of the Jam Gadang of West Sumatra which will be attended by diplomats and foreign visitors to Padang, Bukit Tinggi, and various local destinations, wrote the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on its website, as quoted Monday (25/5).

The discussion in this briefing includes the concept of implementing economic diplomacy that is tailored to the needs and scale of the region. Various materials related to global market trends, global investor behavior and sustainability issues have been presented in this briefing.

It is hoped that every interaction with foreign visitors will increase the image of West Sumatra as a destination that is able to compete globally and credible in the management of natural resources as well as a prospective partner for foreign investors.

Thus, there will be synergy between the growth of the number of foreign visitors and the increase in the welfare and economic growth of West Sumatra Province.

The briefing, which provides an international perspective on the potential for improving services for foreign visitors, can also be applied to other provinces and international airports throughout Indonesia.

Quoted from the Bukittinggi City Government website, the 100th Anniversary of the Gadang Clock is planned to be held on June 14-21, 2026.

Various agendas of activities are prepared, including the Gadang Cultural Night, the International Seminar on Diplomacy Buktitting-Amsterdam, the International Seminar on Gadang Clock Architecture and Machinery, to the Bukittinggi Cinema Week.

In addition, the Bukittinggi City Government in collaboration with the Satu Pena Foundation plans to hold an International Minangkabau Literacy Festival which will be held on June 3-7. At least 250 delegates from 36 will participate in this activity.
