Vivo And Xiaomi Will Use Samsung's Foldable Screen

JAKARTA - Samsung seems to be making a profit this year. Not because of the smartphone business, but from technology contracts to supply folding screens or Ultra Thin Glass (UTG) to several vendors.

Some of them are Vivo and Xiaomi. Previously, Google had also reached an agreement with a South Korean company to get a folding screen panel that would be embedded in their mobile phone. In addition to UTG, a flexible OLED panel is also supplied by Samsung.

Citing The Elec, Wednesday, June 9, in the fourth quarter of this year, the three companies are indeed planning to introduce their folding phones. Therefore, it is estimated that Samsung Display will start mass-producing OLED panels in October 2021.

Rumors are circulating that the foldable Google Pixel or Pixel Fold will have a 7.6-inch folding screen. Likewise with Vivo which also carries a larger 8-inch panel so that it can be folded with an aspect ratio of 10.2: 9 square.

It is known, the panel will be made on the A3 line at Samsung's Asan factory. It also features a 6.5” external display made by BOE at the B7 factory.

Meanwhile, Xiaomi isn't exactly sure what the foldable smart device will be, but Samsung is clear in this report that it will be making a foldable panel specifically for the Chinese giant.

Not to forget, OPPO is also scheduled to release a folding screen phone using a panel made by Samsung. The plan for this Oppo phone will be launched no later than 2022.

For information, Samsung Display itself, will also supply OLED and UTG panels for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 which will be announced next month.

The year 2021 was previously predicted to be the year of folding phones. Because some of the world's largest mobile phone manufacturers direct their business there.
