Dangdut is a way for Pokemon to unite with Indonesian society
JAKARTA - Pokémon has long been a part of Indonesian people's childhood. From the original screen, the interaction of the cartoon characters can now be more real.
The Japanese IP has held several interesting collaborations with Indonesia through sports and art. Most recently, Pokémon has enlisted Happy Asmara in the Goyang Hepika version of the Kopi Dangdut music video.
There Pikachu, the iconic Pokémon character appears as a model for the music video with the singer. The adorable yellow character not only wears a glitzy 'biduan' costume, but also dances nimbly to the typical dangdut rhythm.
Susumu Fukunaga, representative of Pokémon revealed the reason for choosing dangdut music as a medium for collaboration.
"Anime is about taking an exciting journey. So the theme we chose was dangdut, because when you hear it, it's also exciting and fits the feel of the anime," he said in an interview with the media not long ago.
The spirit is also in line with dangdut music that brings happiness. He emphasized that the character is something close to fans.
"Our biggest goal is to show the image that Pikachu and Pokémon are part of everyday life," he added.
During the session, Fukunaga also slightly leaked about the next interesting collaboration plan. It is known that Pikachu has also become an airline mascot, with its funny and iconic batik outfit.
