Eight Witnesses Examined, Police Waiting for Labfor Results of Bulungan Regent's Office Fire
TANJUNG SELOR - Police are still investigating the cause of the fire that hit the main building of the Bulungan Regent's Office on Wednesday (20/5/2026) evening.
Until now, the results of the National Police Forensic Laboratory (Labfor) are still awaited to determine the exact source of the fire.
Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of Bulungan Police, AKP Haji Rio Adi Pratama said investigators could not conclude the cause of the fire because the laboratory examination process was still ongoing.
"The cause of the fire cannot be concluded because it is still waiting for the official results from Puslabfor," said Rio, Saturday (23/5/2026).
He explained that the East Java Police Labfor team had previously conducted a direct examination at the location of the fire and secured a number of evidence to be tested further.
The evidence brought included electrical installation cables, charcoal powder from the fire, and a number of other materials from the burned building area.
"The evidence seized was in the form of cables, charcoal powder from a fire, and several other material samples," explained Rio.
Rio said that laboratory examinations are estimated to take about two weeks until the official results are published.
"In addition to collecting evidence, the police have also examined eight witnesses related to the incident. They consist of local government employees who are on duty, firefighters, Satpol PP personnel, to residents who first knew about the fire," said Rio.
"Currently, we are still focusing on examining witnesses while waiting for laboratory results," he continued.
Rio emphasized that regarding the alleged intentional element, the police ensured that until now they had not found any indication of a criminal act in the incident.
"So far there is no indication of intentional elements or criminal acts," concluded Rio.
