Two perpetrators of begal with initials MA and BR were arrested by members of the Tanjung Priok Port Police Criminal Investigation Unit on Jalan Raya Pluit, Karang Utara, North Jakarta.
The two were arrested while looking for a victim to be robbed.
Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of Tanjung Priok Port Police, AKP Pandu Prabawa, said that the two were repeat offenders of similar cases. The arrest began with a patrol carried out by his ranks.
"Starting from routine patrol activities at crime-prone points, the police managed to prevent two men who planned to commit armed robbery using machetes and machetes," said AKP Pandu when confirmed, Friday, May 22, 2026.
The arrest was made when the movements of the two perpetrators were suspected by officers in the field. The two perpetrators were seen pushing a motorcycle.
Then the officers stopped the two to be checked.
"The suspicion of the officers was proven after the search was carried out. From MA, the police found a machete 50 centimeters long which was stored in a cloth bag," he said.
Meanwhile, from the suspect with the initials BR, the officers secured a 50-centimeter-long celurit or arit that was tucked into the front left waist.
Based on the results of checking data and identity, the two had committed theft with violence or begal.
It is known that the two weapons carried by the perpetrator were planned to be used to search for victims.
"The sharp weapons carried by the two suspects were prepared to commit street crimes in the form of robbery, extortion, or extortion," he said.
However, before the evil plan went smoothly, the two were first secured by members of the Tanjung Priok Port Police Criminal Investigation Unit.
Furthermore, the two perpetrators and the evidence were then taken to the police station for further investigation.
"Both of them are charged with Article 307 paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code, with a maximum penalty of seven years in prison," he said.
