MUI Appreciates the Release of Indonesian Citizens Detained by the IDF, Emphasizes No Connection with BOP
JAKARTA - The Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) for Foreign Relations and International Cooperation, Prof. Dr. Sudarnoto Abdul Hakim, expressed deep gratitude for the release of Indonesian citizens (WNI) who had been detained by the Israeli security forces (IDF).
The Indonesian citizens are part of a global humanitarian delegation that is part of the Global Sumud Flotilla mission. Sudarnoto emphasized that the success of this liberation was the result of global public pressure and real diplomacy, as well as denying any connection with the BOP.
"Alhamdulillah, our brothers who were abducted by the IDF have been released after various public pressures and diplomatic steps were taken. The Indonesian government also made serious efforts for this release," said Sudarnoto in his official statement.
Condemns IDF's Violent Actions against Humanitarian Volunteers
Sudarnoto strongly condemned the detention. According to him, IDF's actions in treating humanitarian fighters in a rough and inhumane manner have violated international law and injured humanitarian values.
Regarding the momentum of the release of Indonesian citizens in Israel, the Chairman of MUI conveyed 5 important points:
Patterns of Israeli Crimes that Continue to RepeatMUI reminded that intimidation of volunteers is an Israeli strategy to cut off international support for Palestine. "The goal is clear, to destroy all the ways that people do for humanitarian aid and social, political, and diplomatic support for the defense of Palestine," explained Sudarnoto.
Status of Israeli Law Violations Still OngoingAlthough the Global Sumud Flotilla volunteers have been released, this does not erase the legal violations committed by Israel. Sudarnoto emphasized that Israel, with the support of the United States, must still be held responsible for these arbitrary actions.
Diplomatic Track, No Connection with BOPSudarnoto explicitly straightened out the speculation circulating regarding the negotiation process. He stated that the process of this release was purely the result of collaboration between the government and community elements, without the involvement of the BOP party.
"I want to emphasize that this release has nothing to do with BOP. This release is a joint effort of the government through its diplomatic channels and the community carried out by various organizations such as MUI, philanthropic institutions, activists for Palestine, and the role of the media," he said.
The Key to Palestinian Independence is UnityThis event is an important lesson that a solid movement can produce real results. The unity of all elements of the world community is believed to be the main key to urging international sanctions against Israel and realizing Palestinian independence.
High Appreciation for the Courage of the Indonesian DelegationMUI gives the highest respect to all the Global Sumud Flotilla delegations, especially representatives from Indonesia, who remain steadfast in the face of great risks on the sea route. Sudarnoto hopes that this courage can be contagious and inspire other young generations in the country.
Words of Thanks to the Government and Philanthropic Institutions
Closing his statement, Prof. Sudarnoto expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the Indonesian Government for its responsive and sincere diplomatic steps in saving the lives of its citizens abroad.
Gratitude is also addressed to the Global Sumud Indonesia network and all philanthropic institutions that continue to monitor this humanitarian mission for the future of a free Palestine.
