"Michael" Film Continues Sequel, Producer Promises Bigger Production

JAKARTA - The biopic of singer Michael Jackson, the film Michael, has been confirmed to continue to the sequel. Lionsgate as a production house shared this news with the public.

Producer Adam Fogelson said various discussions about the sequel were going well. The film "Michael" ended with the sentence "His Story Continues".

The story also ends in the middle of the Bad concert tour in 1987. Some parts of the story were also abandoned in Michael Jackson's career from various eras to a number of controversies involving his name.

"I can say there are many entertaining Michael Jackson stories and there is the largest part of the biggest and most popular music catalog that has not been touched. There are many events that take place even the time period of the original film so we are very confident that we have a very entertaining film for a global audience," said Adam Fogelson quoted by Variety.

The producer also added that the story shown in the sequel was also not in chronological order. The first film had caused controversy with that side.

"We can go forward and backward in telling this story," Fogelson said.

The film "Michael" reached the box office when it was shown in theaters, but the story behind its production was controversial. Initially, the film presented a little story related to the harassment scandal involving Jackson's name.

In the end, the plan was canceled after lawyers from Jackson's family as producers realized there was a clause in the settlement with one of the singers, Jordan Chandler, who sued Michael Jackson. Chandler asked that no names be mentioned in the film.

Fogelson revealed that some of the material that was cut could be used in a sequel that could potentially reduce the cost of the film.

"We think we have 25 to 30% of the second film already shot from the previous production activity, and that will be beneficial (financially) in the end, but we will make sure we make a big and satisfying film for global audiences once again," said Adam Fogelson.

Starring Jaafar Jackson, the film Michael became one of the highest-grossing films in 2026.
