Attorney General Detains Boss of Bauksit Mine in Corruption Case of IUP in West Kalimantan

JAKARTA - The Attorney General's Office (Kejagung) has detained a mining entrepreneur in connection with a case of alleged corruption in the management of mining business permits (IUP) in West Kalimantan (Kalbar) for the period 2017-2025.

Director of Investigation of the Attorney General's Office for Special Crimes (Jampidsus), Syarief Sulaeman Nahdi, said investigators had named one suspect after securing a number of parties in Pontianak and Jakarta on Thursday, May 21.

"We have named one suspect," Syarief said at the Attorney General's Office building, Jakarta.

The suspect who was detained was the initials SDT as the beneficial owner of PT QSS. The company is suspected of carrying out bauxite mining activities outside the area that has been determined in the mining business permit. "This was done from 2017 to 2025," said Syarief.

In addition to designating SDT as a suspect, the Attorney General's Office is also still examining a number of other parties who were also secured in the operation. Investigators also conducted searches at a number of locations in West Kalimantan and Jakarta to find additional evidence related to the case.

The Attorney General's Office suspects that the practice of mining governance irregularities has caused large losses to the state. Currently, the calculation of state losses is still being carried out by the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP).

"The suspect is currently being detained for the next 20 days at the Salemba Branch Detention Center of the South Jakarta District Attorney's Office," concluded Syarief.
