The Government of the Republic of Indonesia ensures that the Gaza Flotilla volunteers who were abducted have left Israel.

JAKARTA - Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono confirmed that the nine Indonesian humanitarian volunteers who were part of the Global Sumud Flotilla 2.0 had been released and were currently on their way out of Israel to Istanbul, Turkey before returning to Indonesia.

Sugiono said the success was the result of intensive diplomacy carried out by the Indonesian government since receiving the report of the interception of the humanitarian fleet.

"This positive development is the fruit of hard work and close coordination carried out by the Indonesian Government intensively since receiving the report of the interception of the GSF 2.0 fleet," said Sugiono in an official statement, Thursday, May 21.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the Directorate of Protection of Indonesian Citizens has optimized all available diplomatic channels, including coordination with a number of Indonesian representatives abroad to ensure the safety of Indonesian citizens.

The Indonesian government also expressed its appreciation to the Turkish government for its active support in facilitating the repatriation process of the volunteers.

"We express our utmost appreciation to the Government of Turkey for its active role and full support in facilitating this repatriation process," said Sugiono.

The Indonesian government reiterated its condemnation of the inhumane treatment received by volunteers during their detention.

Indonesia considers the actions against civilians carrying out humanitarian missions to be a serious violation of international humanitarian law.

The government ensures that it will continue to monitor the repatriation process until all Indonesian citizens return home safely and healthy.

"The Indonesian government will continue to monitor this repatriation process until all Indonesian citizens return safely to their homeland," said Sugiono.

To note, previously nine Indonesian humanitarian volunteers who were part of the Global Sumud Flotilla 2.0 were arrested by Israeli military forces on May 18-19, 2026.

They were arrested in international waters near Cyprus in an interception operation of a humanitarian mission carrying logistical aid and medicine to Gaza, Palestine.
