Xi Jinping Reportedly Plans to Visit North Korea

JAKARTA - South Korean news agency Yonhap reported, citing a number of sources, that Chinese President Xi Jinping may visit North Korea as early as next week.

"We have obtained intelligence that indicates President Xi Jinping will soon visit North Korea," a senior South Korean government official was quoted as saying by the news agency, Thursday, May 21.

Xi may try to mediate relations between North Korea and the United States, according to the report.

In addition, he continued, during a meeting with Xi in China in January, South Korean President Lee Jae Myung also asked the Chinese leader to help mediate relations between North Korea and South Korea.
