Kremlin Says Russia Ready for Dialogue with Europe

Russia heard statements from European capitals that they should talk to Moscow, and it confirmed its readiness for such conversations, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said when asked about European discussions on candidates for the role of negotiator with Russia.

"Indeed, in the last 3-4 weeks we have heard statements from (Finnish President Alexander) Stubb, and we have also heard statements from Berlin that sooner or later it will be necessary to speak directly with Russia," he told TASS as quoted (22/5).

"Russia is ready to engage," Peskov said.

"We believe that talking is always better than leading to a full confrontation, which is exactly what Europe is doing today. If this European behavior changes in favor of dialogue, we will welcome it," he said.

"The fact that discussions of experts are underway in the EU on this topic is a good thing," Peskov said, adding "a few months ago, even such discussions did not take place in Europe."
