The Ministry of PU Says It Needs a Budget of Rp. 30 Trillion to Handle 136 Locations for Railway Crossings Sebidang

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) noted that there were 136 railway crossing locations on national roads that needed further handling to prevent accidents.

The handling in question could be the construction of a flyover or underpass.

Deputy Minister of PU Diana Kusumastuti said that the budget needed to handle 136 crossing locations for the plot reached around Rp30 trillion.

"In terms of construction needs, the estimated cost for handling the 136 locations reaches around Rp30 trillion with this estimate, the average construction cost is around Rp350 million to Rp400 million per meter," said Diana in a working meeting of Commission V of the Indonesian House of Representatives with the Ministry of Transportation and the Ministry of PU at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Thursday, May 21.

The distribution of the 136 locations is in seven provinces, including North Sumatra (27 locations); West Sumatra (7 locations); South Sumatra (18 locations); Banten (8 locations); West Java (13 locations); Central Java (16 locations); and East Java (47 locations).

"Thus, there are still 136 crossing locations on this national road that need to be further addressed," he said.

Based on these data, said Diana, the scale of the work is quite large and needs to be carefully arranged by involving relevant ministries/institutions.

"Data shows that the scale of this work is quite large. Therefore, the priority of handling needs to be carefully arranged based on the risk of safety, the need for construction, and also the readiness for land acquisition," said Diana.

Based on data from the Ministry of PU, there are around 4,242 crossings per piece.

Meanwhile, based on data from PT KAI, there are 3,674 single-track crossings in Indonesia.

Meanwhile, data from the National Police's Korlantas, there are as many as 3,693 crossings in one piece throughout Indonesia.
